Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

Is it legal for an employer to terminate me after stating my cash register was over? Once prior I was told that my drawer was short by an amount--they accused me of taking the money. Two days later I was told they found the money. ( my register didn't log a sale from the day until 2 days later). I believe this is also the case here, register error. I am not the only person with access to my cash drawer or register. I've been scolded for being too nice to customers, for helping other employees, for on occasion talking to other employees. (we are only allowed to talk when not punched in), for keeping my cell phone on my counter to be in an audible range of it, (I am a single mother with no one else to be contacted if something were to happen to my child at school), and for writing at my counter when no one was there. I have never been in trouble for any actual duty or task. Infact, I was a top performing employee. Do I have any legal recourse?

In general, you can be fired at any time, and for good, bad or no reason. There are exceptions to this rule, but to determine whether you have recourse will required a comprehensive examination of all the circumstances.
