Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

Non disclosure and Business protection agreement

My employer is having sign a non disclosure and non compete agrreement - the document states that in case of breach of the provisions, my employer has the right to not only terminate or dismiss me but also to sue for monetary damages and injunctive relief. I am scared of signing this document as it gives my employer cause to sue me for any trivial cause. Please advise

Re: Non disclosure and Business protection agreement

I doubt that your employer would have the right to sue you for a trivial cause unless the agreement is very unusual. However, I would recommend that you have a lawyer review the document especially if you consider the limitations that it imposes to be trivial. I can assure you that employers can and do sue for breach of non-disclosure and non-competition agreements and they frequently win. An agreement that appears harmless at the point when you need the work may later be very constraining when you want other employment. Take the opportunity to have the agreement reviewed by a lawyer so that your future is not jeopardized.
