Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey
Can the owner of a privately owned company "garnish" earned salary from an employee for a lost sale? I handled a project for my company. We ordered stuff late. We received the material and then the customer refused to take the material. Since we lost part of the profit and, my boss has deducted the profit, shipping costs, and re-stocking charges from the factory from my paycheck. Is this legal?

If you are a wage-paid employee or on a fixed salary, it is not proper for your employer to charge you for any such losses. If you are paid on a commission basis, your compensation can be reduced for such charges if that is what your commission agreement says.
