Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey
I am a former Police Officer in the state of NJ. Two years ago I was shot several times while off duty. As a result of my injuries I was physically unable to return to duty. I went into a deep depression and succumbed to the use of Marijuana and excessive drinking. I received a surprise visit from 2 Internal Affairs Det's and they administered a urinalysis on me in my home before I was cleared to return to duty. As a result I was terminated from my position and unable to collect 2/3 of my pension in which I was seeking for early accidental retirement. The attorney representing me had in fact worked part time as a public defender for the township in which i was disputing. he had also at one time served as a judge for the same court. So needless to say his defense on my behalf was as mininmal as can be. I then in fact was told later that he could no longer represent me and I missed the appeal process. At this point Im awaiting my workers comp court hearing but still suffering with the lost of my proffession as well as full use of my legs that i had prior to my incident. Please advise me what can be done in this matter if anything.
Thank You,
Deeply wounded in NJ
