Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey
promise of employment
Our store is closing & @ a company meeting, we were all offered employment @ another store location. We were also asked to stay to close down the existing store (approx. 6 weeks). Now that we stayed for the close down & are ready to move to the other location, we are being told that the new store may not be able to take us. Basically, we were all lied to & used just for the labor of the close down. The district mgr. made these promises of employment to a group of us but we have nothing in writing. Can we take any legal action? Because we trusted them, we did not go out and seek other employment opportunities.

Re: promise of employment
You have a case but you will have some difficulty in pursuing it economically. So, try to get a list of everyone affected and their addresses and telephone numbers. If you do file suit, you will be able to get more in discovery. You are all potential plaintiffs. Consult a lawyer who handles employment and workplace issues near you. If you have trouble with this, give me a call.
