Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey
After receiving an offer letter from the new employer, I resigned from my current job. At that point, the new job offered benefits from day one. I gave the current employer my resignation letter, effective 4 weeks later. At that point, I was paid out by the current employer, and did not have to return to that position. I was covered from my current position for health benefits, until the day I started the new job, because they offered benefits from day one, there was no lapse in my coverage, and no lapse in my pay. Two weeks after I received the offer letter, the job offer was rescinded. It took me another 3 weeks to find a job. I lost two weeks pay and have no benefits for three months. Is there anything I could do to be reimbursed for lost time? Who in NJ could I report this to? Thank You

You have a remedy in contract or quasi-contract.depending on how the court views certain facts. The theory is that either (1) you had a contract for employment for at least a reasonable period of time or (2) you did not have an actual contract but one will be implied because you changed positions in reliance on the second employer's promise.
