Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey
I recently was let go. The reason was downsizing. I worked for 20 years for this small company. It was a total shock! I was informed by mail from a messenger. After calling my boss he said that he plans to hire 3 people on my salary. He did not offer any package, he will pay for my medical untill the end of this year.( Total $1,800). As we were ending our conversation he mentions that he wants me to sign an agreement that I will not work for any of our compeitors. I NEVER SIGNED ANYTHING PRIOR TO THIS! He told me he will mail the agreement to me. WHY, DID NOT OFFER ANY SERivents pay. He actually said to me on the phone that he was a coward. Help?? Why should I sign it? (No prior agreement) Can I tell him that I would sign it with a package? Thanks

Perhaps you may want to explore the "real reason" why you were terminated. If it was for an unlawful discriminatory reason then you may want to review your options.
