Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

I have to report to work at the warehouse/office at 6 am, but we don't start to get paid untill we reach the job site and we do not get paid for the ride back to the shop. we are in a company van. the trip to the job site can be 2 hr's at times. my company's main office is in N.Y. but our shop is in N.J. untill recently we were paid to the job but the ride back to the shop was not paid. is this legal?

If you are required to report to the warehouse, your time starts when you report. If the ride is a courtesy that you can take or not, then the employer can avoid paying you for the time if things are carefully done. The same applied for the return trip.
