Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

salary reduction

I was hired at a special education teacher in 1996. At the time we received a $400 stipend added to our salary. When contracts where renegotiated they got rid of the stipend although I continued receiving it due to the grandfather clause. Now, 12 years later, the B.O.E. wants to reduce my salary by that $400 amount. Is that legal? What are my rights??

Re: salary reduction

It sounds illegal to me. You ought to have your union rep. grieve this issues. I'd also recommend that you set up, through your union, to sit down with a union attorney to discuss this. If your union is not helping, then consult with an employment attorney.
