Tax returns being requested on employment interview.

Does a potential employeer have the right to ask for a canidates 3 year tax returns. I understand a W2 is ok but what about tax returns?

They have the right to ask, but you also have the right to refuse. And except in certain circumstances (which vary from state to state) they may or may not be able to refuse your candidacy because of that. You aren't specific so I can't answer specifically (even if we did so on LawGuru).

Personally, I would not provide this information for 99% of positions. My suggestion would be to find out more about the employer first and see what they are trying to find out through the request.

Your instincts are good to look at this situation and question it. Follow your instinct.
