telephone unemployment appeal

I recently moved, and my previous employer is fighting me about unemployment they say i walk out and sign at will document. but i was harassed by this company and they have a long history of harrassment. how do i prepare for a telephone hearing

A lot will depend on what type of harassment you have experienced. If the harassment falls into a few specific areas, it may be prohibited by law. In that case, convincing the interviewer would mean that your leaving would be justified and you can continue to collect unemployment. If you do not have a good reason for leaving, you may be found to have left voluntarily. In that case, you are not eligible for unemployment benefits.

At the telephone interview, you should be prepared to relate specific instances of harassment and state who did it and when. It would also help to have witnesses support what you say. In NJ, you can subpoena witnesses and you may be able to get a delay in the hearing in order to do that.
