Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

Unjustified salary reduction

The company I work for has decided

to reduce everyones salary by 7.5%.

They gave us an ''Industry'' overview

to justify the reduction when usually

we get detailed facts and figures that

are company specific.

Now they attached a letter to our

paychecks that says '' This letter

confirms our discussion and

agreement that you will accept a

7.5% percent reduction in your

compensation, whether minimum

guarantees, basic salary, commission

or draw for period beginning March 1,

2009. This reduction will be reviewed

by management on a regular basis.''

Then at the bottom it states ''* All

employees MUST sign and return this

document to the Human Resources

Department by March 6th, 2009''

Can they do this? There was no

discussion and we are not being

given any terms or timeframes on

when and if our salaries will be

brought back? There are numerous

people who are at a loss of what to

do.

We don't want to lose our jobs but

believe that the company is just

using the economy to put more cash

in their pockets.

Our 2008 sales were $98 million

dollars and we are as busy as ever

now.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Unjustified salary reduction

My advice if for you to make an appointment with an employment law attorney. An attorney needs to interpret this agreement for you and explain the law to you.
