Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

Verbal promise by employer...

Hello, I was recalled to a union posistion after a layoff in New Jersey - I was recalled to a diff. Dept Than I used to work for - Before I even started back it was said that I would prob. go back after a short stint to my old Dept. - As recent as 6 weeks ago It was stated to me verbally by my old supervisor that this was a done deal With higher ups stating that I would def. be coming back to my old posistion - (March/April 2008) appeared to be a rough Approx. - This past week I was thrown for a loop by being transfered to a completely Diff. Dept! - The supervisor there said that I came with high recommendation and that even though they knew that I was to Xfer back to my ''old'' posistion they said that they would ''block'' that from happening because I was considered ''Good'' - That left a ''bad taste'' in my mouth... I would like to go where I was verbally promised! Both areas have a LOT of work coming up... The ''new'' Job is working with dangerously high voltage at a fast pace production level... (Old job is low volt) I have a phobia of high voltage - I was inderectly struck by lightning 2 years ago - I have a lot of other health and stress issues I am dealing with also - Any suggestions? Any and all help would be greatly Appreciated!

Re: Verbal promise by employer...

Are you in a union? If you are, then you should contact your shop stewart. Also, do you have written company policies? Read through those policies carefully to see whether your company has violated any of them. If you have a phobia relating to high voltage, I'd talk to your medical doctor about getting referred to a mental health doctor to address this phobia and possibly obtain a medical letter which could be provided to your employer. Your best would be to speak to an employment attorney who can help you to deal with all of these issues. If you want to contact me, call 908.301.9095
