Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

Two weeks notice to employer

I am in sales and normally companies will not accept a two week employment resignation. If I give a two week employment resignation and the employer does not accept it, must they still pay me for those 2 weeks (in compensation?)

Re: Two weeks notice to employer

The short answer is "No".

Because pennsylvania is an "at will" state, an employer can lawfully fire an employee for any reason or no reason at any time. In the abscence of some other agreement, the employer is only obligated to pay you for the time that you work. Therefore, an employer can terminate your employment at the time that you give notice and is not obligated to pay you for the two weeks you wanted to stay on.
