Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey
Wrongful Termination?
I have worked for an international corporation for 5 years, have been promoted twice, and have routinely received excellent reviews. A new manager came in 6 months ago and we don't get along. He has now written me up twice, citing only a bad attitude and some other very general and very false claims. Without witnesses present, he admitted that this was all because he did not like me and it is obvious that he is just creating a paper trail to fire me. I have played the game, asking him multiple times what he required from me so my evaluations would improve. He has refused to give me any specific criticisms (this is all in writing). If I am fired, could I sue for wrongful termination or some other similar complaint?

Re: Wrongful Termination?
If you feel the situation is now so bad that you anticipate being fired as practically inevitable, then you are asking the wrong question. You should not wait until being fired to take appropriate action.
You will need to retain an attorney to assist you in protecting your job.
A possible strategy is to go over your immediate superior's head to higher levels of management. This is risky, and this is why you want a lawyer retained to assist you. However, there seems very little point in waiting to get fired, doing nothing to protect yourself.
