Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey
My almost 80 yr old mother has been living in an apt for over 40 yrs. The owners daughter has been trying to get her to move so she can raise the rent since she pockets that money itself. She has been sending people to scare my mother into moving and recently she sent a "real estate" agent trying to force her to sign a paper. The owners daughter even gave this "agent" my number and has been harassing me as well. I know if the building is sold the new owners are supposed to contact the tenants I have never heard of a real estate agent speaking to a tenant (it's only my mother she's been threatening) to move. What right does she have and I have for her harassing me as well?

Assuming she lives in a building with more than 3 units or is not owner occupied with three units or less, your mother cannot be forced to move if she pays the rent and complies with the lease.
You mother should sign nothing.
