Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey
Apartment Problem
I wrote my apartment complex in regards to a few problem I had with rust building up in the bathroom doorway, locks that do not work on the outside building, the lack of clean hallways and a concern that they charged me for my pet in my last billing statement. After living here for 8 years I have never been assessed with a pet charge. In their response to my letter they decided I should pay them $1,475 for back pet fees or I will be evicted. My concern is that I have never had a problem with them and they were aware of my pet becauese I contacted them upon getting the dog.. They claimed that I had no written acknowledgement of my pet but I spoke with them and confirmed that the pet was onsite. They mentioned not to worry about payment. However after my letter of complaint they have threatened me with an notice of intent to evict if I do not pay back fees for the dog toatling $1,475.00. They also advised that the rust in the bathroom is from the dog urine and my dog does not urniate on the walls. What are my rights and is this legal. I had two flood where my home was filled with water because of their pipe problems and they insisted that it was not their fault that their pipes broke. can you advise me? please

Re: Apartment Problem
They are threatening a retaliatory eviction which is barred by the laws; they will fail.
Call me if you like.

Re: Apartment Problem
this is pretty bad. sounds like retaliatory eviction, and as attorney Gary Moore said, they should lose.
