Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey
breaking a lease
i had given my complex where i live 2 months notice that i am leaving. i was told that i was going to be charge 350.00 for breaking the lease and will be responsible until the find someone to rent apartment. the first thing is they r fixing apartments as people leave so they wont rent mine until the get to it. second i have neighbor who play music until 1200- 100 in the morn. drugs trafficing is every night. people peeking in my front and back window. i am terrified what they might do since sometime my boyfriend goes away weeks at a ti me on business. i feel i am breaking this lease for good reason. i am also a recovering adict and dont wont to be near the activity. i have told there staff several acastion and spoke to them with no prevail. i dont not feel i should loose my security or be responsible for breaking my lease since this is all going on. can you please help and give me some advise to what my rights are as a tenant in need. i have committed myself to another lease in novemer so i think two months advance notice under the surcomstances is fine. please help.
thankyou

Re: breaking a lease
If the neighbor who plays music loud is also your landlord's tenant and the drug trafficing is on the landlord's property you have a strong claim that you are the victim of a constructive eviction because the landlord permitted the subject bad conditions to exist. You need an attorney.
