Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey
Certificate of occupancy
I called several times to towholl to ask what are requirments to landlords on non owner ocupied two family houses. And was always geting same answer that there no requirement exept zonning certificate wich we got when bought the house. Now we found out that certificate of occupancy
is required, and of course from our tenants that breaking lease. Today we were in Code Enforcement Department and they told us that yes we need it each time we have new tenant. Is there any way for me to win the case if tenants will go to court for their security. My lease states that they responcible for the full term or until I rerent. I already applied for c.o.. Will the judge listen to my explanations?
