Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey
Circuit Breaker
We live in a duplex and the circuit breaker for our unit is in the cellar which is utilized by the tenants on the other side. The LL was told by the Township inspector that we must have access to our breakers and to either have a letter drawn up and signed by us and the other tenants agreeing to hold us harmless in the event we need to access the breaker on their side or to move the breaker box to our side of the rental. We told the LL we would withhold rent until we obtained the mandated access, but he has failed to comply and is now threatening us with eviction for no payment of rent. Help

Re: Circuit Breaker
I hope that you advised your landlord in WRITING that why you were withholding rent. Secondly, so long as you are able to pay the rent when you appear in court you will not be evicted. I believe that a lawyer could be of considerable assistance to you.
