Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

Family members refusing to adjust for homeowner

Boyfriend purchased home from parents 10 yrs ago through attorney, with regular closing procedures. Deed and mortgage in boyfriends name. Mother moved back into home 8 yrs ago with daughter (age 19) (had no where else to go). Neither pay rent. Boyfriend let them live here for free. I have lived with boyfriend in same home for 4 yrs and we are now having a baby. Boyfriend told mother we would be putting her and her daughter together in a bedroom to provide nursery for baby when the time came. Mother refuses and is seeking legal representation. Does boyfriend have the right to move bedrooms around to provide room for our own family or will this be a complete court battle and could he possible lose? We cannot afford to put on an addition for a nursery.

Re: Family members refusing to adjust for homeowner

Boyfriend owns a house, and has two people in it (mother and daughter) who he wishes to move into another bedroom. If he owns it, then he has the legal right to decide who lives in it. However, there may be other laws that come into play: is there a landlord tenant relationship? do mother and daughter have any claim of ownership, or claim that there is an agreement to let them live there? Perhaps I do not understand all that is taking place. It seems likely that there is important information that you just did not include; I think you should discuss this in detail before any attorney can give you advice.
