Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

My husband was a superintendent in apartments where we live in NJ. But 2 weeks after he returned to work from 3 months on workers comp( work injury) his employment was terminated. The company sent us a bill to pay the rent for apartment 3 days ago and today we got a notice to quit saying we have to vacate apartment in 7 days.Any advise how to handle this? We have 3 little kids and there is no way we can move out in 7 days.
