Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

Illegal Apartment

I'm a landlord and I rented an illegal apartment. How much time do I have to give the tenant to move? Should I serve him with a termination of tenacy? Do I absolutly have to pay him 6 months, although he has only been there 4 months and only paid me 2 months? Please help

Re: Illegal Apartment

You need to get your tenant out because the town may impose a fine. You owe him six months rent to move.

Re: Illegal Apartment

The only other thing you could try and do is file an action for ejectment in the law division to try and avoid the 3 month pre-suit notice and the 6 monts rent as reimbursement for moving expenses per NJSA 2A:18-61.1g
