Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

Landlord Locked my doors With out previous notice

I pay my rent whth checks trough the mail on the first of the month.

Last month I sent my check trough the mail and they said that they never received it.

Like around Monday December 29 2004, when I got to my house I saw a note by the landlord with an eviction notice, Saying that If I didn't pay my rent before the 5th I was going to be locked out of my premices.

With out any prior notice of saying that they didn't received the payment.

I spoke with the supper of the apartment complex and tryed to give her the money. She told me that I had to get in contact with the landlord. I called and no one was in the office left message after message.

Today in the morning they came and locked the door to my appartment.

By law aren't they supposed to give the tennant a warning before they close the door?
