landlord makes threats to evict when repairs need to be done

My family has lived in this house for 17 years .We originally rented from landlords mother until she passed,the house was purchased by daughter.as soon as she purchased it she wanted to raise rent ,we asked for repairs to be made she threatened to evict,she never did repairs.this has continued for until the roof fell in she begged us to still stay .we called health inspecter she had to do repairs .we moved back in after 1 month,she sent us eviction notice.she did not show for court.still excepting rent .now she says she is selling house she wants us out .now.we always paid our rent,and we love this house.its an old house and needs repairs but nothing major some updating.what are our rights?do we have to leave ,our rent has always been paid and there is no reason to evict ,she is very slum landlord.

New Jersey law gives you some very strong rights, and this can not be explained in this short computer reply. You may have the right to stay even if the landlord wants you out.
