Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

My landlord sent me a new renewal lease. In it it states that the apartment is only rented to two people. In the past, it has been rented to the four of us. My husband & myself and our two adult children. I have been living here for over 20 years. My three minor children lived with me when I moved in. Currently, two of my adult children still live here. My oldest has Aspergers and my other child is trying to pay down student loans before she gets her own apartment. Do my two adult children have to leave the apartment they have been living in for the last twenty years? Can my landlord leave them off the lease?

The new lease does not comply with the law which requires the landlord to offer a lease with only reasonable changes. By excluding your adult children from the lease, the landlord had failed to offer a new lease to them. If you call this to the landlord's attention, it will probably be corrected. Otherwise, contact a lawyer who does tenancy work in your area.
