Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

Lead Poisoning

I signed a waiver releasing my landlord from the responsibility of fixing lead paint problems. The landlord has since sold the building and I don't have a new lease with the new landlord. When asking him about fixing the lead paint problem, since now we have a child, he said that the original waiver still stands and that he is not responsible for fixing the problem. Is this true?

Re: Lead Poisoning

You raise an interesting question, one which I could not answer unless I spend a bit of time and research the problem for you. It seems to me that you really want to be sure that the lead paint does not horribly injure your child, which lead paint CAN do. Your child's safety is first and most important. You really and truly do not want your child to suffer from lead poisoning, it can cause horrible damage. Please have this issue looked into, or you may even want to consider moving out or possibly bring this to the attention of the town's housing officials.
