Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

Lease Agreement question

If I signed a lease agreement with my boyfriend I was the first signer on the lease he was the second signature. My boyfriend has moved out of our house rental and we have two months left to go on the lease plus utilities, isn't he still responsible for anything between now and the next two months, and can he take his name off the lease?

Re: Lease Agreement question

this response is based only on what information you gave.

You are both obligated to pay what is owed to the landlord. You have to figure out what you want to do (stay, move out, move out in a couple months), and then talk to him.

You may want to talk to an attorney after you find out what the exboyfriend will agree to. It should not cost much, maybe $200 or so, to get some advice. It sounds like you have a lot more money than that, at risk.

If you would like, give me a call; I am in northern New Jersey. I will be happy to discuss this with you; the telephone consultation will be free.
