Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

Lease

One year ago I signed a one year lease. When my landlord recently gave me a copy of it ,there was an extra month included on the dates. So instead of 12 months it was 13 .It was definately a typo error , however she is trying to obligate me to the 13 month dates instead of my term of one year. She clearly made the mistake which was whited out. However she wants me to pay (literally) for her mistake. Can she do this to me and can she withhold my security deposit?

Re: Lease

Your landlord cannot change the terms of your lease without your agreement, and cannot oblige you to conform to these new terms. I would have to see the actual lease to give any determinative advice, but the fact that a term was changed using "white-out" could strongly support your position. Please feel free to contact my office for a free consultation on what your options might be.
