Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

I live in New Jersey. My lease said no pets. After seeing other tenants having pets a lot of them we got a dog. The landlord now suing us.What can I do?

1. talk to landlord, ask if getting rid of dog will make landlord dismiss the lawsuit. if not, get a lawyer.
