Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey
Possession is 9/10ths of the law
I have been living with a woman for 2 years now. When I moved in I brought my big screen tv and home theatre system which we use in her living room. She owns the house. I own the tv. She claims that if I moved out, the tv is hers. She stated ''possession is 9/10ths of the law''. Is she right?

No, she is not, unless you and she made some kind of agreement that she would own your property.
You are headed, it seems, for some kind of nasty breakup. If you would like a little advice from an attorney to avoid as much of the problems as you can avoid, then give me a call.
The very GOOD news is that you did not marry her. Far fewer problems.
I am in Hackensack (northern New Jersey). I will be happy to discuss

As Mr. Davies pointed out, absent some form of agreement, she has no possessory interest in your TV (or any of your other personal belongings - assuming of course that she did not assist you in purchasing them).
