Can a power of attorney represent a landlord for an eviction proceeding if the landlord is not a business or corporation?

Unless a statute provides otherwise, only a natural person can represent himself or herself in court. Entities must be represented by an attorney at law admitted to practice before the court. Likewise, no person can represent another person unless they are admitted to practice law. NJ Landlord/Tenant Court rules provide an exception for a partner of a general partnership who may represent the partnership in an eviction proceeding.
