Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

I was renting a room without a lease from a private homeowner in New Jersey. I had to discontinue renting due to medical reasons and gave the landlord a 1 week's notice. Is the landlord allowed to keep any of my security deposit or are they obligated to return the full deposit amount? There was no damage to the room and no back rent was owed.

There is no clear answer to this based on the information in your question. In this situation the landlord is entitled to one terms notice.

If you were renting a room in a month-to-month basis The landlord would be entitled to one months notice. If it was a weekly rental, one weeks notice.
