Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey
I have Section 8 and live on the top floor of a 2 family home in Hackensack, NJ with a year to year lease. The rent is $1,400.00 per month ($1,100.00 is paid by the state IE: Section 8) My portion of the rent is $300 per month. I am now 1 month behind on my portion. The real estate agent who acts as the manager for the property in question is threatening to bring me to court for eviction. I have not been given anything in writing by the manager, landlord nor the court. I am concerned and am unsure of my rights as a tenant on section 8. Do I need an attorney? Where do I go from here? Your help is greatly appreciated, Thank you in advance.
Best Regards,
