Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey
i am being sued for back-rent
I am being sued for not paying my rent for many months, BUT, I never re-signed by lease for 2007, so am I still responsible for payment?

Are you asking if you are not liable for rent during the time you lived there, just because you didn't SIGN a lease? If so, you are liable. You are not getting out of this one because you didn't sign the lease.
Re: i am being sued for back-rent
If you stayed beyond the term of your lease without signing a new lease, you are on a month-to-month tenancy which is otherwise governed by the terms of the expired lease. You have to pay for the months that you stay at the rate that was effective as of the last month of the lease unless you have negotiated a different rate with the landlord. The landlord is within its rights to expect payment for the time that you occupied the premises.

Yes
Re: i am being sued for back-rent
If you were in the leased space, you have to pay rent. The exact amount...I can not say for sure, but it is probably the amount set out in the last lease you had, or maybe more if the landlord sent you a correctly done notice of rent increase.
IF, but only IF you are running a business (not if you are a tenant living in an apartment), then you can call me to discuss this. For an apartment lease, you will need to find a lawyer who is much closer to your area; it is just not worth your money to pay me to travel to your area for just a couple hundred dollar dispute.
