Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

As a tenant in NJ who is several months into a year-long apartment lease, I would like to know if the lease could be severed in the event that I lost my job (lay-off/firing) and could not afford the rent. My lease does not have a hardship or unemployment clause, but I am worried that my job is in jeopardy and I won't be able to afford living here any longer if I am laid off. Is there anything specific in New Jersey law that addresses this? Thank you.

While I appriciate your concerns, you have a problem. Unless the lease contains an out clause adressing hardship or unemployment, you are obligated to the year term. At this point, the best you can do is to follow the lease terms and if you lose your job negotiate with you landlord to try to get good terms.
