Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

Theft of service & property

I live in N.J. and the event happened in N.Y. the owners of the prop. live in N.J., all communications about prop. happened in N.J.

I had a verbal lease on a prop. in Ny, but the owners lived in NJ, I was supposed to have a store lease, but it needed to be restored, a floor, elec, sheetrock,etc.., the owners were to pay, they signed a contract with the elec., they never gave me a writted lease and I paid for all the repairs, they never showed to pay the contractors, after asking for both lease and monies they came into the shop, I was open for 14 days and gave me a quit notice to vacate in 3 days they changed the locks and I want to sue where can I sue them for conspiracy to commit, fraud,theft , loss of revenue , punitive damages, they never gave me a lease and now say that I was going to do the work for myself only, the store is listed under a corporation in NY but has their mailing address in NJ, I contacted the police in NY when they came in with the notice and when they broke in and changed the locks, I was told it was a civil matter, I'm afraid that these people have done this before and if I sue them inNY they will not be served and I will be wasting my time.Can I sue them in Nj because we both reside in NJ, and the neg.

Go see a lawyer and get a lawsuit going against these people.

I am not absolutely sure, but it looks like you CAN sue them in NJ courts. I would need to sit down with you, and get a lot more info.

Depending on how much money was spent, this could be well worth pursuing. Get a lawyer.
