Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey
unfair lease?
Hi, I am a female and I've been living in an apartment for 9 months with a landlord who also lives in the apartment, and his friend, who is renting an identical room as me. Recently, I found out that although my lease started at almost the exact same time as his friend, he is charging his friend $200 dollars (25%) less then me per month. Can he legally do that? Is that illegal and discriminatory that a landlord can charge 2 different prices for an identical living situation, for 2 different people?

Re: unfair lease?
Unless you can prove that he discriminated against you because you are a woman, it is unlikely that he is violating any law by charging different rents.
