Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

My wife and I broke a lease with approximately 7 months left on it. I have surrendered my security deposit and paid two months after that. The locks are changed and we can no longer get in to see if he has done anything to try and rent it out. What would the landlord be able to do if he were to take us to court?

Theoretically the LL seek the rent for the term. However he has to take reasonable steps to relet the apartment. You have the right to find out what he has done.
