Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

I had a one year lease on a residential property which I left 7 months into the lease. The landlord now wants me to pay for the renainder of the lease term. How can I avoid paying this?

Possibly by filing bankruptcy. Then your debts and obligations may be wiped out, depending on whether or not you qualify to do so. Absent that, why would you think that you can avoid the obligations that you placed yourself under by signing a contractual obligation, which is what a lease is?

Keep in mind that this advice is given based on the little bit of information that you have

provided in your question. My advice may change based on other information. Further, no one
