Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey
The zoning department told me that the house I rented is zoned for one/two family and they will be sending someone for an inspection. There are already two families living in the first and second floor. I live in the basement. Since it is illegal, I haven't paid any rent for this month. Moreover, the landlord has 1/2 month's rent as security deposit. I'm planning to relocate to another state in another few days (by July 10th) as I got another job. If I don't pay any rent, can the landlord file an eviction in court? If so, if I relocate to another state, I may not get the eviction notice and I may not be able to go for the hearing. What will happen in this scenario?

You will probably be evicted unless you appear in court and challenge the validity of the lease.
