Legal Question in Legal Ethics in New Jersey

professional movers stole personal belongings and damaged our belongings

On the 11th of October professional movers moved our belongings to a storage unit. Today (October 25th) My fiance' and I realized that several of our things were missing. A Sony PSP (taken out of the original box),A portable DVD player (out of the original box), a GPS unit, 2 two-way radios, and my night-vision monocular are all gone. There maybe more that we haven't realized yet. This company also damaged several of our things. My fiance' collects water globes(she has collected these since she was a kid-they can't be replaced); many of which are broken, a ''L''-shaped desk was broken apart because they couldn't take it apart properly, our stainless steel fridge was dented. Yet again, there my be more that we haven't realized as of now. We are going to file a police report tommorow. Can they get away with this? Can we take legal action?

Re: professional movers stole personal belongings and damaged our belongings

Professional movers must use a very high degree of care when tranporting and storing customer's property. Yes, you should have a legal claim against them for the missing and damaged goods. The company should have insurance for these kind of claims, and tell you who to contact and how, to make a claim.
