Legal Question in Mediation in New Jersey

No good deed goes unpunished

While in a personal relationship I facilitated the purchase of an automobile to obtain financing. The car is still in my name as well as the insurance even though the relationahip has been dissolved. My X still has use of the vehicle and is paying the note. I would like to extricate myself from this situation completely. What options are there?

Hi:

The only thing I can suggest is that your ex refinance the car note in their name. If you are paying for the insurance, since you are on the note, you can not cancel otherwise that will trigger a whole host of other problems. Once the car is refinanced, then you can sign over the title, and cancel the insurance.

There may not be much you can do unless she defaults and they start going after you. Then you will be able to get something done here.
