Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in New Jersey

I live in NJ, I visited an Endocrinologist for hypothyroidism, he checked my previous medical record and suggested me for a blood test. Prior to visit I did not ask for price I need to pay for this visit and they also did not tell me the price. Now I received $585 for that office visit. 80% of my medical cost is covered by my insurance, for this visit I need to pay $30 copay + $106.5 my portion, total $136.5. This amount is huge for me as I am paying good amount of insurance premium per month. My question is can any Doctor charge any amount of money of office visit? Is it legal for doctors? Is there any state law/guidance on doctors fee?

Generally, medical fees are not regulated by the government. Many insurance carriers have "participating" providers whose fees are frequently capped by contract with the insurance carrier,

If cost is a factor ask before you receive your service.
