Your question indicates careless medical treatment and, at the very least, an office that is not properly organized.

Most doctor's offices are set up to permit an office assistant to review the doctor's plans and phone in your script. In the case of an in person visit, your wife should have left the office with a written script.

Hopefully, your wife will not be injured by a delay in treatment. If she has any concerns in that regard, she should contact the office to speak to the doctor, and possibly the on call doctor.

This kind of carelessness procedure can be sign of other problems which may rise to the level of malpractice, i.e., this may be the tip of the iceberg. Hopefully, this did not occur in this case.
