Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in New Jersey

negligence

My father had emotional issues and was suicidal, he made several suicide attempts and had been seen in his local emergency rm as well as by his regular dr. . He had been released and sent home each time after being given more meds(which he wasnt taken correctly) after only a day or so. After attepts by the family to have him held and observed we were told they could not keep him.He would sign himself out as well as dr. sign him out. In july he succeed at his suicide attempts and took his life. I want to know should or could these Dr. and hospital be held responsible for negligence or for wrongful death. since it seems to me that they should have seen that he was a danger to himself and maybe others.

Re: negligence

It is difficult to fully assess whether or not the doctors should be held liable without further detail about the facts of your case/your father's history, etc. There may be enough here, however, to file a lawsuit to seek compensation. Additionally, even if there is not enough to pursue a legal claim, you may still wish to initiate an investigation of the care provided to your father by reporting the hospitals/doctors invloved and requesting an investigation. I am located in New Jersey and handle these type of cases. If you'd like to contact me, I offer free consultations and would be happy to discuss your case.
