Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in New Jersey

operated leg now longer!!!!

I am 46 years old and was diagnosised with Avascular nercrosis(AVN) bilateral( a bone disease) due to a quad accident in 1985.

My left hip was 4cm X 6cm,the right was 1cm X 1.1cm. My Dr. did a core decompression on the left and a bone graft on the right.

After 4 months the right leg got worse and I ended up with a total hip replacement on September 2005. Now the left leg is 1.5 inches longer!. I know this because the Physical therapist measured my legs because he noticed the difference when he would get me up to walk.

My Dr. says that his measurement was a half inch and that I should give the leg about a month and see what happens. If no change then I will probably need to have a lift put on my shoes.I am also concerned about developing back problems.

I have a lot of energy and know that this leg discrepency will make a huge difference in my activity level when I get better.

What are my legal options if any?

Thank you for your time

Re: operated leg now longer!!!!

You have described the issue that makes many people consider a malpractice case: a bad and unexpected outcome.

If you are considering a Medical Malpractice suit, you should begin calling Malpractice attorneys NOW. You could begin with your local Yellow Pages or THIS site:

A bad outcome does not by itself mean that you received substandard care.

That attorney evaluating your case will be considering your injuries, and his familiarity with your care to decide whether he would be willing to invest in an opinion by an orthopedist.

Although I am both a doctor and a lawyer, I do not have enough experience with this particular procedure to make a determination that your care was substandard. An attorney who has dealt with this kind of issue in the past will be in a better position than I would be to decide if you have a case. You should begin inquiring NOW.
