My brothers wrongful death
My mentally ill brother was arrested in Atlantic City for loitering, on October 26th 2002 we were notified that my brothers body had been in the morgue since August 31st the date of his arrest We were told he hung himself first with a string then with a shirt then we were directed to internal affairs where we were given no information at all they had an autopsy done his death according to them was strangulation, we had a second autopsy done and the doctor said if he died the way they said he did it would have taken three hours for him to die while in police custody he had multiple brusis and contusions and a broken nose we were told that all the prisoners were video taped, even if that was the case if they had cameras to watch the prisoners why didnt they stop his death he was 32yrs old and had a son my father only living 20 minutes why did it take them three months to notify us he was in the morgue?at the police are supposed to serve and protect but in my brothers case I feel they were partially responsible for his death if not fully responsible is it possible to bring a civil suite against the police department of atlantic city or the city for wrongful death?

This matter is very difficult to discuss via the internet. It does seem very peculiar that it would take that long to notify the next of kin. In addition, the manner of death is also suspect. Did anyone file a tort claims notice with the jail? Please contact my office to discuss in more detail.
