Legal Question in Personal Injury in New Jersey
On July 5 2009 my niece was living with us and we had our dog fixed two days prior. Wife and I were away for weekend. Niece had friend over and she was outside with dog on his leash. Dog went over to her friends vehicle and he let the dog get in. They were all outside vehicle. When he was ready to leave he reaches in and acks my dog on his backside where he was sore. He scared dog and dog bit him in gave then cowered down. He had three punctures requiring about 6 stitches total. Wife and I offered to take cate of all bills and he said it was ok. The army would handle it. He declined all help that we offered. Year later he is now trying to sue me. I contacted my homeowners and since I was in financial struggles at the time and almost losing my home. My lender assigned me insurance. Since then I have gotten into a program and saved my home but my lender assigned me property insurance only. No personal liability. I had no idea of this. Don't know what to do. He hit my dog. He declined our help at the rime and waited a year to sue. Any help in directing me would be great.
