Legal Question in Personal Injury in New Jersey
Hi. I am planning on making an event in a hotel for two days. For this event, we will probably have hundreds of college students come, and we would like to teach and inspire them, and we would also have a little music and dancing for fun (but no alcohol). But we ARE NOT an organization, we are just a bunch of college guys, or married guys, or guys who just graduated college.
I would like to know if I need to get some type of health insurance coverage or some other type of coverage for all the people that come, and if I need to have everyone sign something saying that I'm not responsible if something happens to them or if they loose some of their property. - Or is there anything else i need to do in order to not be in trouble if someone would sue me for something?
This event will probably take place in New Jersey. Thank you for your help!

If you are planning on having this event at almost any hotel capable of hosting hundreds of people in New Jersey, the hotel itself will likely require you to have some sort of insurance for the event. It would probably be best to start by contacting the hotel you have in mind and asking what they require (typically they mandate certain dollar limits and policy types).
Keep in mind that getting this required coverage is generally there to protect the hotel and may still leave you open for personal liability. With that in mind it is very advisable to have each of the attendees sign a document limiting your individual liability (and possibly that of a group). This may be known as an assumption of risk form or a hold harmless form. Your best bet would be to contact a lawyer in your area who deals with contract drafting and general business law and have a document created specifically for your event.
